How much down time is there with a hair transplant?

A hair transplant is a procedure that can take 4-8 hours depending on how many grafts are needed. Like any procedure, we recommend you take it easy for the first couple days after the surgery. However, down time is different for each person, depending on their job, their level of activity, and what area has been transplanted. If your job involves vigorous physical exertion, you will want to avoid this or do light duties for the first 2 weeks, but by week 3, you will be back to full activity.

For everyone following the transplant, you will have small scabs at each graft site for the first 3-7 days. If the new hairs are transplanted within the hair you still have, the scabs may not be noticeable. Longer hair does a nice job of covering up the little scabs afterwards. However, if you have a new hairline designed and transplanted in the front of the scalp, these small grafts can be seen as little scabs for the first week and little red marks for a few weeks following the surgery. These little red dots can be covered up with a camouflaging mineral makeup which we can provide. The scar at the back of the scalp is usually well covered by your hair above it and so it is not very noticeable within a couple days of the procedure. If you can cover your head at your job, then a cap can be worn to hide any scabs or marks as early as the first week.
